Spreading over the western slope of the Apuseni Mountains, the Zarandului Country is one of the richest reservations of archaic traditions of Romania. Tebea, in the Baia de Cris commune, accommodates the Avram Iancu memorial complex, who was a hero of the Romanian revolution in the Transylvania of 1848-1849, as well as Gorunul lui Horea, the place where Horea talked to the resurgent bondmen in 1784.

Although it is called "Country", the term does not imply any political, social or administrative statute.
