The President of the USA, George W. Bush, reiterated Tuesday, at Kiev, that USA will give its strong support to Ukraine’s and Georgia’s efforts to join NATO. This decision would help the two ex – soviet republics to become official NATO candidate – countries. “We support MAP for Ukraine and Georgia”, Bush said at a news conference with Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko.
The American leader emphasized that, at the Bucharest NATO Summit,
Russia “will not have any veto right” on the issues concerning Georgia and Ukraine. Moreover, Bush urged Russia “not to have any fear” concerning Ukraine’s efforts to be closer to the NATO structures.
The Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko expressed his hope that Ukraine would receive “a positive signal” at the Bucharest NATO Summit, in order to officially become a NATO candidate – state. “I am confident that we will receive a positive signal from Bucharest”, said Viktor Iuscenko.
