Bucharest Baneasa International Airport only open for the Official Delegations during the Summit
"Aurel Vlaicu" Bucharest Baneasa International Airport will be reserved exclusively in the 2-4 April period for the official delegations of the NATO Summit. All civilian flights, including those of the low-cost operators, will be redirected to the "Henri Coandă" Otopeni International Airport.
This was concluded in the Government meeting held Wednesday through a Government Decision stating that "The Aurel Vlaicu" Bucharest Baneasa International Airport will be reserved exclusively to Summit related-flights, and the "Henri Coandă" Otopeni International Airport will operate all civilian flights during the NATO reunion".
The information was confirmed for Mediafax by the State Secretary at the Foreign Ministry (MAE), Victor Micula.
"The chosen formula was that both airports remain open, only that the civilian flights are concentrated on the "Henri Coandă" Airport while Baneasa Airport stays open for the official flights. Airline flights, low-cost flights and even some of the special delegations will operate on "Henri Coandă"", Micula announced.
He also mentioned that the American President's Aircraft will land on "Henri Coandă" International Airport.
Aircraft carrying official delegations will be considered priority against civilian aircraft, excepting emergency cases.
The act forbids all the over flights of the national territory by state aircraft registered in the country or abroad, with or without stopover on Romanian airports, transporting troops, ammunition, explosives, radioactive material and other dangerous substances.
All these measures will be enacted between April 2 and April 4, 2008, starting with the first flight transporting an official delegation/ guest that enter Romanian airspace and ending with the last flight transporting an official delegation/ guest that leaves the Romanian territory.
